Derbyshire Eco Centre
- Dates & times
2 sessions from Sun 11 Oct 2026 [Show]
- Description
This two-part smoke firing workshop, held over two Sundays, is ideal for all abilities whether you are a complete beginner to pottery or have some experience of working with clay. You will explore and make a variety of different forms ready to prepare for the firing on the second weekend.
This course provides an exciting opportunity to experience ceramic techniques where clay is fired with organic materials and rapidly cooled to create unique random effects and surface patterns.
On the first session you will explore a variety of different hand building techniques using inspiration sources from both land and sea forms. You will also explore surface pattern, texture and colour which will enhance the effects of the smoke firing process.
Your individually designed pieces of work will then be dried and fired ready for you to prepare with a variety of organic materials for the outdoor smoke firing day.
Although there will be a break we recommend you bring a packed lunch with you.
