Countryside Skills

If you bring a carer to support you, they do not have to pay. Carers should not ‘book’ themselves onto the course (or they will be charged). Just tell us they are coming in the attendee special requirements field when booking.

This course can be booked as a whole, or by individual sessions. Choose your ticket type and then check out as normal.

A supportive and inclusive group for everyone wanting to learn hands-on outdoor skills at our unique and beautiful countryside Eco Centre site.  

Enjoy working as a team, and learning new skills, while keeping active and well in the outdoors and nature, doing practical activities together.  

This is a course designed to add to your skill set and requires physical work and, at times, working on uneven ground within the stunning grounds of Derbyshire Eco Centre. 

The programme is as follows:

1. Sep 16 - Dry Stone Walling - Setting up frames, laying foundations and cheek ends

2. Sep 23 - Path Construction - Woodland path creation

3. Sep 30 - Woodland signage - installing wooden signs

4. Oct 7 - Mulching and Composting - Making and filling compost areas in the woodlands

5. Oct 14 - Dry Stone Walling - Cheek ends, throughs and lifts

6. Oct 21 - Hedgelaying - Laying the Eco Centre hedges

Working with an experienced tutor, you will have the opportunity to learn any of the following: woodland maintenance, path construction, dry stone walling, growing and gardening, making habitat boxes, making raised beds, repairing and maintaining tools, caring for hedgerows, mulching and composting and working in a supportive and caring community with like minded people in a natural environment.
